Senior Patrol Agent Jeremy Wilson United States Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection

End of Watch: Sunday, September 19, 2004 Date of Incident: Sunday, September 19, 2004 Age: about 29 Years Tour of Duty: 7 Years Cause: Drowned

Senior Agent Wilson and Senior Agent Travis Attaway drowned after their patrol boat capsized in the Rio Grande River near the Free Trade Bridge at Los Indios, Texas. Agent Attaway and Agent Wilson, along with a third agent, were conducting a routine patrol of the river when the 19-feet Predator patrol boat encountered turbulent water and capsized. The Rio Grande river was unusually swollen as a result of heavy rains in the area the previous day. Other officers in a nearby patrol boat heard a distress signal, and were able to make it to the scene in time to rescue the third agent who had been thrown into the water. The bodies of Agent Attaway and Agent Wilson were recovered two days later after a massive search of the area. Agent Wilson had served with the United States Border Patrol for seven years.

Sergeant Brad Crawford Clark County Sheriff's Office

End of Watch: 22:00, Friday, July 30th, 2004 Date of Incident: 20:18, Friday, July 30th, 2004 Age: about 49 Years Tour of Duty: 8 Years Cause: Suspect ramed the patrol car with a truck.

Clark County Sheriff's Sergeant Brad Crawford was fatally injured when the armed suspect crawled from a home that sheriff's officers had surrounded, climbed into a full size pickup truck and rammed Sergeant Crawford’s patrol car Friday night, fatally injuring him. Deputies had responded to a report of a man with a gun at a house north of Orchards. When the Sheriff’s Department arrived on-site they identified that the suspect was suicidal and engaged the SWAT team. While the SWAT team was positioning themselves the suspect crawled out of a window and into his full size pickup. Instead of fleeing the scene, the man drove across a field and rammed into the drivers side of Crawford's patrol car around 8:15 p.m. mortally injuring Crawford, officials said.

Dorothy Cochran spoke at the 2nd annual All-American Memorial service, held on Sunday, May 16, 2004 at Sunset Hills in Bellevue. Although the day was overcast, Dorothy brightened spirits with her moving account of Richard’s years of service and untimely death, and how much COPS meant to the family during their time of such deep sorrow. Other speakers included the Mayor and Police Chief of Bellevue, Connie Marshall and Jim Montgomery, respectively, as well as King County Officer Faye Brooks. As part of the service, Dorothy, and family members laid a wreath at the base of the memorial."

Bellevue Square Law Enforcement Appreciation Day PDF Print E-mail
News - 2004 Archive
The annual Bellevue Square Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was held on Saturday, 05/15/04. COPS members were responsible for both WSLEM and COPS tables, located right by the clock/staircase in the middle of the mall, with resulting excellent visibility. Nearby were displays for Crimestoppers, the All-American Memorial, and several other Law Enforcement jurisdictions such as Medina, King County, Bellevue, Harbor Patrol, Redmond, etc. As representatives of COPS, we had the COPS banner perched over our table, distributed our Mission Statement and blue ribbons to distribute, accepted donations for Men in Blue Calendars, and had a continuous playing of a video of Police Week activities. Further, we displayed the poster with names/EOW of all Washington State fallen officers. This was the poster our liaison, Gary Felt, made for the first time in 2003 and most unfortunately was forced to add to this year. For the WSLEM and 10-99 Foundation, we displayed the blowup of the specialized license plate, distributed how-to-purchase license plate fliers, and sold WSLEM pins. Volunteers’ enthusiasm and willingness to share stories with passersby helped the public become more aware of the COPS mission. For all of your help in making the 05/15/04 Bel Square Law Enforcement Appreciation Day so successful, I offer MANY thanks to: Steve Linen, Phil Booth, Laureen Davis, Neva Levinson, Kit Ford, Vicky Davidson and her daughter Jamie, and Cochran daughters Ann Marie and Betsy with granddaughter Christina. Thank you! Brenda Donner, WaStateCOPS Treasurer
